Brunei is a small, resource-rich monarchy on the island of Borneo, home to the world's largest residential palace (Istana Nurul Iman) and the "Venice of the East" (Kampong Ayer). The nation boasts a very high standard of living due to its oil and gas wealth, providing citizens with free healthcare and education. Brunei was the first Asian country to ban shark finning and has conserved a significant portion of its rainforests.

  • Alcohol Prohibition: The public sale and consumption of alcohol are illegal in Brunei. 

Nature & Geography

  • Borneo Location:

Brunei is the only country on the island of Borneo that is not divided between Malaysia and Indonesia. 

  • Rainforests:

Approximately 70% of Brunei's territory is covered by lush rainforests, which are home to diverse wildlife. 

  • Kampong Ayer:

This unique settlement, often called the "Venice of the East," consists of traditional houses on stilts built over the water.
