Ecuador is a remarkably diverse, compact South American nation famous for its biodiversity, volcanoes, and the Galápagos Islands.

It is the only country in the world named after a geographical feature, The Equator, which runs through it. 

"Walking" Trees: In the Sumaco Biosphere Reserve, certain palm trees can "walk" up to 20 meters a year by sprouting new roots toward better sunlight.
