Canada - General

Canada is the world's second-largest country by area, has the longest coastline, and a vast number of lakes. It is home to unique facts like the Hawaiian pizza originating there, Santa Clause being Canadian, and a legal protection for "Bigfoot" or sasquatch. Furthermore, it has an incredibly diverse and educated population, with official languages being English and French. 

Geography and nature 

  • Canada is the second-largest country in the world, with a total area of approximately  9.98 million square kilometers.
  • It has the longest coastline in the world at 202,080 km, bordering the Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic Oceans.
  • Canada has more lakes than any other country, with more than half of the world's lakes located within its borders.
  • It spans six time zones and is home to the world's northernmost permanent settlement.
  • The Canadian Rockies are a major mountain range, and the Canadian Shield contains some of the oldest rocks on Earth.
  • Churchill, Manitoba, is known as the "Polar Bear Capital of the World". 

Culture and people 

  • Canada has two official languages: English and French.
  • Canadians are the world's biggest consumers of both doughnuts and mac and cheese (which they call "Kraft Dinner").
  • The Hawaiian pizza was invented in Canada.
  • Santa Claus is officially a Canadian citizen, and letters sent to him at "Santa Clause, North Pole, HOH OHO Canada" receive replies.
  • The real-life bear that inspired the Winnie the Pooh stories was named Winnie after the city of Winnipeg.
  • The Canadian motto is "A Mari Usque ad Mare," meaning "From sea to sea".
